The showdown concludes with a three-game home stay for the Lakers, while the Nets are two games away on a three-game road trip in the Western Conference.

Brooklyn enters the meeting having earned the reputation of a legitimate title contender, while LA is a team that is still working things out. Making matters worse for the Lakers is a knee injury suffered by Anthony Davis on December 17.
After an MRI revealed an MCL sprain on Davis’ knee, it was announced that he would be out for a minimum of four weeks.

The Nets, on the other hand, are coming off a week in which a COVID outbreak resulted in the postponement of games against the Nuggets and Wizards. Including superstars Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, 10 Nets were placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, prompting the team to sign three players using the NBA’s hardship exemption.
