Thursday’s matchup between the Warriors and Timberwolves is the third meeting between the teams this season with both franchises splitting the previous two matchups on Nov. 10 and Jan. 16.
After starting this season red hot, winning 27 of its first 33 games, Golden State has struggled to maintain its form and Draymond Green’s availability or lack thereof is a big reason. Although they have won their last three games, the Warriors have gone 8-7 in the 15 games since Christmas Day and of those 15, they are 5-6 when Green is unavailable.
Additionally, his games since Christmas Day have also included the integration of former multiple All-Star Klay Thompson. The shooting guard has averaged 14.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in seven games, where the team has gone 3-4.

This game against Minnesota is the penultimate of a seven-game stretch for the Warriors, who have won the last three games, including their most recent 38-point victory against the Mavericks.
On the other hand, the Timberwolves come to this game after a victory in Portland. That win was the team’s 24th of the season, already surpassing its tally from last year.

While that’s a small win for the franchise’s new front office and coaching staff, there are promising signs. Their top three players in Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell have not only been the team’s most used 3-man lineup, they also boast a remarkable 13.0 net rating in 652 minutes.
If we were to extrapolate his current winning percentage of 51.1 percent through his remaining 35 games, that equates to at least 17 more wins, which would bring his season tally to 41. That would be the second-best win tally of the franchise from 2004-05. season.
While that can’t be predicted with exact numbers, things seem to be heading in the right direction for the Timberwolves.
