One of the most underrated all-rounders, Shaun Pollock made his ODI debut on this day in 1996 along with another great all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
Pollock, however, was the star of the match as on his debut, he scored a run-a-ball 66 and then scalped 4 England wickets to end with match-winning figures of 4 for 34. It turned out to be a dream debut for Pollock who, while batting first played a very important inning of 66 runs when his team required someone to step up down the order. Coming in to bat number 9, not many had thought that Pollock would be able to score so many runs.
He did not stop there as he went on to take 4 wickets, opening the bowling for South Africa.
Jacques did not have a memorable match. He scored 38 runs for his team, batting at number 8. Those 38 runs had come off 65 balls.
