IPL 2023 Groups: Ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, BCCI adds 2 new IPL teams and successfully hosts the IPL 2023 Mega Auction where all 10 teams formed their IPL 2023 Squad with a minimum of 18 players to a maximum of 25 players .
In the 2 day mega event, Ishan Kishan becomes the most expensive player in IPL 2023 Auction.
BCCI confirms that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel which is considered as a major threat for the spread of COVID-19 infection, thereby affecting the players and the League/matches.
Earlier IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirms the IPL 2023 start date as March 26 with finals on May 29, 2023.
IPL 2023 Groups
IPL 2023 Groups List: Based on the trophy count all 10 teams and appearances in finals, teams are divided into 2 groups of 5 teams each. If a team failed to lift a trophy their final appearance count is taken to allocate their position in the group.

5 times IPL winners Mumbai Indians has been placed at the first position of group A while the next highest(4 times) IPL trophy winner CSK has been placed in the first position of Group B.
KKRwho won the trophy for a couple of times has been placed in the second position of Group Awhereas SRH who won the trophy in 2016 has been placed at the second position of Group B.
The highest number of final appearances made SRH(2) to hold the position compared to the RR(1) who also won the trophy one time.
The third place of Group B has been granted to RCB who made a final appearance 3 times. Following are the details of the IPL 2023 groups.

IPL 2023 Format
As per IPL 2023 rules, all 10 teams will play a total of 14 league matches (7 home matches and 7 away matches) totaling to 70 league matches, followed by the 4 playoff matches.
Each team will play 5 teams twice and the remaining 4 teams only once (2 only home and 2 only away).
To explain it clearly a team from one group will have to play 2 matches against the same aligned team of opposite group.
Which Team Face Twice in Opposite Group?
- MI will face CSK for 2 times
- KKR will face SRH for 2 times
- RR will face RCB for 2 times
- DC will face PBKS for 2 times
- LSG will face GT for 2 times
Example
In Group A: Lucknow Super Giants will play 2 matches each against MI, KKR, RR, DC of the same group and will also play 2 matches against Gujarat Titans in group B. Lucknow team will play 1 game against remaining teams of Group B which are – SRH, RCB, PBKS, and CSK.
In Group B: Chennai Super Kings will play 2 matches each against SRH, RCB, PBKS, GT of the same group and will also play 2 matches against Mumbai Indians in Group A. CSK will play 1 game against the remaining teams of Group A which are – KKR, RR, DC, LSG.

A total of 70 league matches will be played across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune. The venue for the playoff matches will be decided later.
