The Patriots-Bills game was expected to be insane due to the skill level of the teams, but the weather has added another level of absurdity to their “Monday Night Football” reunion.
Before the game, it was snowing heavily at Highmark Stadium in Erie Country, NY Fan videos at the game also showed how strong the wind was. According to the National Metereological Service, the winds have been between 25 and 29 mph during the game so far. On top of that, the wind gusts reached between 40 and 50 mph.

The wind took its toll on the game from kickoff – Buffalo’s kickoff hit the stands.

The Patriots had little success in their first two units, which resulted in punts. New England, which kicked into the wind in the first quarter, had punts of 36 and 15 yards, respectively.
I can confirm: it’s windy.

The Patriots also opted to steal the ball from Mac Jones. The rookie, playing under adverse conditions for the first time in his NFL career, didn’t attempt a pass until the penultimate play of the first quarter. The pass finished high and looked impossible to catch, but Jonnu Smith caught it for a 12-yard gain and first down. It was his only attempt of the first half.

By contrast, the Patriots rushed 23 times for 149 yards, 64 of which came from a Damien Harris touchdown in the first quarter. But New England, unwilling to risk kicking a 32-yard extra point attempt into the wind, decided to go for a 2-point conversion. The conversion attempt, a pitch for Brandon Bolden, was successful, giving New England an 8-0 lead.
The Bills scored their first touchdown as a result of a muffled punt by N’Keal Harry, likely caused by the intense wind in the first half:

That premature loss led to the Bills’ first touchdown, a 14-yard pass from Josh Allen to Gabriel Davis (Allen finished the half completing 6 of 10 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown). Buffalo chose to give kicker Tyler Bass a shot at the extra point, which he successfully converted (though a video of him warming up before the game is going viral for showing how much the wind affected his 34-yard field goal attempt).
This is crazy. Good luck kicking tonight. The wind in Buffalo is to the next level.
The ball literally turned into a boomerang 😂

Patriots kicker Nick Folk had a chance to attempt a field goal early in the second quarter. Folk ended up making the 41-yard field goal attempt with the wind at his back.
The wind is not expected to decrease much during the game.
